25/100 #100DayChallenge Mini Love Journal (Journal #3)

This little cutie is barely 2" x  4" and has 18 blank pages for anything the artist or writer wants to put in it...poetry?  words of love?  recipes?
The front and back are covered with some of my original art (except the stamp) I thought the stamp might inspire ideas for the contents.

24/100 #100DayChallenge "It's All I Have"

I'm sorry my picture taking skills are so iffy.  And the glass reflects the light.  But here is #24/100, a mixed media work that doesn't show up very good at all - with 2 lines from an Emily Dickenson poem:
"It's all I have to bring today -
      This, and my heart beside."
I'm loving poetry these days.

23/100 #100DayProject

"The Storm"

Acrylic on wood.

The last stanza of Robert Frost's A Line-Storm Song - Poem is included as part of the art:

"Oh, never this whelming east wind swells
But it seems like the sea’s return
To the ancient lands where it left the shells
Before the age of the fern;
And it seems like the time when after doubt
Our love came back amain.
Oh, come forth into the storm and rout
And be my love in the rain."

22/100 #100DayChallenge "The Raven"

"The Raven"
Ever since I did the mixed media piece entitled, "The Lady of Shallot," I've been fascinated with the concept of the art of literature.  This morning I completed a dark and mysterious piece entitled, "The Raven."  In mixed media with some new techniques used for the background and the first stanza of EAP's famous poem written over the face of the man, himself, and a couple of ravens, one perched above a chamber door.  I love the way EAP seems to be staring at the viewer through the words of his poem.

What do you think?

21/100 #100DayChallenge "Hope Springs"

Tissue paper collage with bird.

20/100 #100DayChallenge Zentangle Class in The Dalles

Two Zentangles, one from my student, Marsha Morrison (on the right) who did a beautiful job on her first Zentangle, and the other from me (on the left).  After doing the Zentangles above, Marsha began a Valentine heart similar to the two I did a couple of days ago.  Though we ran out of time to finish, Marsha was able to take the project home to complete it.  I really enjoy the small class situation.  It is a great way to get to know each other while we work on our art together.

Two other ladies were signed up for the class but had an emergency and couldn't make it as planned.  Maybe another time.

18/100 & 19/100 Personal Art and Writing Journals (Journal #2 & 3) Clifford

I started out to make a journal for myself that I could draw or write in.  One that started as a children's book, with a cute cover, that concealed the journal inside.  I found several kid's books at the thrift store that I liked and selected this one (Clifford's Kitten) as my first.  It is bright and fun.
8.5" X 9" Journal
Small 3.5" X 4"Sketch Journal
I used paper from an art pad to use with pen and marker.  I cut the pages to the exact dimensions that matched the size of the front and back covers.

Next I inserted 2 sheets of art paper between each of the story pages that I had cut out of the book and when that was done I punched the pages to accept the spiral that was going to hold it all together.

Then, after removing the binding edge from the front and back covers, I punched them for my new journal covers.  I was doing pretty good until I realized I had punched one too many holes in the front cover.  You can see that in the picture on the left.  Oh, well, too late to change that.

After assembling the book, I ended up with an art journal disguised as a kid's book.  The pages flip out of the way when I start drawing, and the covers are solid, so I can put the book on my knee to draw or write at any time, and it will support my work.

After I had cut the art paper to size for the Clifford's Kitty journal, I had 3.5" strips left that were 8' long.  I cut them to 4" each and punched and assembled them for a pocket-sized art journal.

I made the covers from the sturdy cardboard that had backed the original art pad and put it all together with a short piece of spiral wire.  I decorated the top cover with some Zentangle designs and voila! a tiny journal that I'm already using to keep notes on the Zentangle classes I teach.

17/100 #100DayProject Valentine Card "Be Mine"

One more Valentine Card for my next couple of classes.

The card is laying on a white piece of paper (bad idea) on a yellow tablecloth.  The actual edges of the card are where the colored portions end, not the white background paper that the card is laying on.  Have I sufficiently confused you yet?

16/100 #100DayProject: Valentine's Day Card in Mixed media and zentangle

I'm teaching a Zentangle class on Saturday at The Dalles Art Center and needed a prototype to show the class the project we will be creating.  This is the card that I designed.  We will be making 2 different cards that day to take home and give to people you love.

BTW - It's not too late to get into the class.  1/28/2017 from 1 to 3:30.

Family Heirloom Recipe Journal

Family Heirloom Recipe Journal (Journal #1)

It took about four days to sort through boxes of old recipes that I had accumulated over the years and assemble them into the journal you see in the two photos below.

Sometimes these projects take more than a day; but the pleasure I get from creating something that has so much meaning is priceless.  Over 75 pages of recipes and this and that which evoke memories and bring joy.

14/100 #100DayChallenge: Scrappy's Quilt

14/100
#100DayChallenge

Scrappy's Quilt

Though I am in the middle of another project which seems to be taking several days, I paused to make this quilt for Scrappy.

Scrappy has a habit of laying on what I am working on; so, I thought: Why not make him his own little quilt, so he will leave my projects alone?

Oh, foolish woman!  He has ignored it completely.
But, it still gets entered into my challenge, because it is an art project--even if Scrappy doesn't care for it.
